Second Sunday of Easter, Divine Mercy Sunday

REFLECTION
On the road to Eammaus, the disciples
were slow to recognize Jesus or understand why he had
to die and rise from the dead. Jesus explained the scriptures
to them and they then recognized him in the breaking
of bread. Our celebration of the Eucharist reflects
their experience. We listen with open hearts to the
scriptures, we hear Jesus speak to us, and we recognize
and receive him in the bread which is his Body.
The
unbeliever cannot find God for the same reason that
a thief cannot find a policeman
Year of Vocations—April 2008—May
2009
In 2008 the Church
in Ireland will focus , in a special way, on the vocation
of all Christians. For the twelve months between Vocations
Sunday 13th April 2008 to Vocations Sunday 3rd May 2009,
various projects & initiatives will be organised
to highlight the special dignity of each of the specific
vocations: married & family life; ordained priesthood;
religious life; and the single life.
The aim of the
Year of Vocations is to raise awareness of the common
vocation we all share through Baptism as expressed through
witness, love & service.
Some highlights
of the year will include a national prayer campaign
for students at examination time; a rally for World
Youth Day and collaboration with the national pilgrimage
centres to reflect on the theme of vocation during their
seasons.
It is hoped that
the Year of Vocation will result in a greater understanding
of the value of vocation in our everyday lives and that
people will be challenged to discern and explore their
own specific vocation in life. An important feature
of the year will be the promotion of the priesthood
and religious life with the hope that a greater number
of young people will reflect more deeply on these.

Prayer for Discernment
God, I know you love me and have great plans for me.
But sometimes I am overwhelmed by the thought of my
future. Show me how to walk forward one day at a time.
May I take heart
while I search openly, learn about all the choices,
listen to others for advice, and pay attention to my
own feelings. By doing these things, may I hear your
call to a lifestyle and a career that will let me love
as only I can, and let me serve others with the special
gifts that you have given me. Amen.
Prayer
for Priests and Missionaries
My dear Jesus, by Your most loving Heart, I implore
You to inflame with zeal for your love and glory, all
the priests of the world, all missionaries and those
whose office it is to preach Your word. Inflamed with
this zeal, may they snatch souls from the devil and
lead them into the shelter of Your heart where they
may glorify You forever. Amen.
If
you haven't already returned your Trocaire box please
