Beatitudes for those Who Comfort

Blesses are those who hear with their hearts
for they have the gift of empathy

Blessed are those who in spite of being uncomfortable
step forward to comfort the grieving
for their presence shows inner strength

Blessed are those who refrain from giving advice or platitudes
for their wisdom reminds the bereaved
there are no answers to loss

Blessed are they who continue to call,
visit and send notes long after others have stopped
for they are living examples of compassion.

Blessed are those who understand the timetable of grief
and the fragility of bereavement,
for they possess a gentle and loving heart.
