Completion

I am confident of this, that the one who began a good work among
you will bring it to completion, by the day of Jesus Christ

-Philippians 1:6

Gracious God, may I take these words of St Paul to heart this day and throughout Advent! So often I see how I have failed to live as a Christian should, failed to treasure the gift of faith that I have received. This is not false humility; it is plain fact, and it can be discouraging at times. But St Paul says that I can trust you, who gave me faith is the first place, to “bring it to completion”. Completion may be a long way off, but at least I can have the assurance that it is coming. And I can recognise that I have a Saviour, so I do not have to waste a lot of time and energy trying to save myself. Christ Jesus, help me to wait upon you with patience, gratefully accepting whatever you see fit to give me today and every day.

Penance Service for Christmas on Sun 23rd Dec

God of mercy, nothing is hidden from your eyes.
I acknowledge in your sight all the sins of my life.
I come to ask your forgiveness in the sweet name of Jesus Christ.
Come to the Lord for forgiveness for we all need his mercy.
