Personal Responsibility

Lord, sometimes we are tempted to blame others
for what we are
Let us always remember
that we become what we want to become
No one can force us to be what we don’t want to be,
and no one can influence us unless we choose to be influenced.
Sometimes we fool ourselves into thinking
that when we do something wrong,
it isn't really our fault;
it’s somebody else’s fault;
it’s the fault of some injustice;
it’s the fault of society in general.
But that isn’t true, is it, Lord?
When we are tempted to blame ,
remind us that you created us
with a will that is free-
free to choose good or bad,
free to choose kindness or meanness,
free to choose love and understanding
or anger and resentment,
free to choose to work on our faults
or to stubbornly hold on to them.
Let us always remember, Lord,
to use the freedom you have given us
to develop ourselves
into good, likeable, and responsible people.
Amen
