The Value of A SMILE

It costs nothing but creates much
It enriches those who receive
without impoverishing
those who give.
None are so well off
that they can get along without it,
and none so poor
but richer for its benefits.
It creates happiness in the home,
fosters goodwill in business,
and is the countersign of friends.
It is rest for the weary,
daylight for the discouraged,
sunshine to the sad, and
nature’s best remedy for trouble.
Yet it cannot be bought,
begged, borrowed, or stolen,
for it is something
that is no earthly good to anyone
until it is given away.
To smile then is to look at others
with the eyes of Christ.
To know how to love them
and smile at them
through tears if need be,
is to breathe in advance
the atmosphere of heaven.

Reflection

‘Baptism is both a gift and a commission. Through baptism, God’s favour rests on us, and at the same time He calls us to service to him and to each other. As we grow and mature, we should become ever more conscious of what the demands of service involve. We have before us the example of Jesus himself, the ultimate Servant. As Son, Beloved and Favoured of God the Father, he fulfilled the demands of service to the point of laying down his life. May the Spirit of God which we first received at Baptism help us too to be generous in the sacrifices we make for the good of others.

I thank God for my life and health
I thank God for family and friends
I thank God for faith and hope

Lord, help me see the bright side,
The glass half full, not half empty.
Let me be positive

Help me speak the word of praise
Not words of blame or criticism
Help me to see that my blessings are many
And my crosses few.

Lord you are so kind and good
I love you.
