PRIESTS OF THE PARISH

Priest on duty today Fr Kearns 047 51064

Fr Duffy P.P.. 047-51048
Fr Gorman C.C. 048 677 51231

In the Our Father we pray “Hallowed be thy name”. It conjures up a vision of angels kneeling in circle around the throne of God, bowing their heads, covering their faces in awe, singing in chorus a hymn of endless praise, adoration & worship: Holy, Holy, Holy God. It is only right & fitting that we should laud and praise with all our hearts God’s infinite majesty and glory. We do that when we come to Mass and say together Glory to God in the highest or sing together theHoly, Holy, Holy. Beautiful. But here is another thought. Hallowed be thy name, Thy Kingdom come, can also mean a tired missionary in Africa building a dispensary for lepers or HIV or a sister of Mother Theresa picking up dying people from the streets of Calcutta; it can also mean a teacher in a public school in East Harlem trying hard to teach unruly kids, striving mightily to get through to them and saving them from wasted lives . It can certainly mean a man doing a good and conscientious job at collecting the garbage from our streets; the bus driver conducting the bus with kindness and courteousness for all; the priest on Sunday trying hard to reach people’s hearts; the mother bent over a kitchen sink washing the dishes; a cop on the beat in a tough neighbourhood treating people with respect, protecting them sometimes at the danger of his own very life. It means the doctor in the hospital striving mightily to save lives and restore bodies to full health to the praise and glory of God. It means a father and a mother accepting their awesome responsibility to raise a family with great patience and love. And so on and so forth. It means everyone, small or great, rich or poor, fulfilling our little roles, doing our little part to bring about a better world to the praise and glory of God.
