Reflection

Freedom

I used to think that freedom
Was what someone gave to me.
Until I found that I was bound
By nameless heavy chains I could not see.

I used to think that freedom
Was what someone gave to me.
Until I learned that what I’d earned
Was simply my permission
To use that very freedom
That no one else but myself could give to me.

Those locks and chains and prisons
Are the things we’ve come to hate
Yet those most despised constructions
Are identically the ones we have masterfully
come to create.

I’ve spent a lifetime waiting
For someone to set me free
I couldn’t grow
I didn’t know
That in my very hand
I held the key.

Do not be afraid of Christ!
He takes nothing away and He gives you everything.
When we give ourselves to Him, we receive a hundredfold in return:

Pope Benedict XV1

Love Yourself
We need to love ourselves. Accept yourself - love yourself as you are, not as you might have been or might be. Be kind to yourself and you will be kind to others: let others be kind to you and you’ll be kind to yourself. Allow others be compassionate to you and you will look on yourself with love - and that’s how God looks on you.
