Twelfth Sunday in Ordinary Time

First Reading: Zechariah 12:10-11
The prophet looks forward to a time when a new spirit will be poured out on the people as happened at Pentecost and they will mourn over the death of Jesus.

Second Reading: Galatians 3:26-29
Our unity in Christ has done away with distinctions, and means that Jesus and Gentiles alike are heirs to the promises made to Abraham.

Gospel: Luke 9:18-24
Jesus is revealed as the Messiah, but a suffering Messiah. Suffering will be part of the lives of his followers too.

Parish News for Sunday 20th June 2010

A young person’s prayer for the future

Each day brings new beginnings,
decisions I must make,
I can choose to take the road of life
that leads to great success
or travel down the darkened road
that leads to great distress.
Please open up my eyes,
dear Lord that I might clearly see,
help me stand for what is right,
Bring out the best in me.
Help me, Lord, to just say “no”
when temptation comes my way,
that I might keep my body clean
and fit for life each day.
When my teenage years are over
I know that I will see
that life is lived its very best
with you walking next to me.

One friend, one person who is truly understanding, who takes the trouble to listen to us as we consider a problem can change our whole outlook on the world.
