The generous love of God

“Why be envious because I am generous?” It is very difficult to tolerate begrudgers, those who forget the riches they have themselves and are forever complaining about what others have. We can so easily become like that. We have a call this week to get in touch with all the good things that are in our lives and to give thanks and praise to God and to each other. This is particularly important for the health and growth of every marriage relationship. The greatest temptation in marriage is to take each other for granted and so become dissatisfied. Criticism then enters into the relationship and becomes destructive. A couple needs to be generous with each other and give time regularly to count their blessings. This is also so important in family life where the pull can be towards ever more material things rather than a true appreciation of the treasure that is in each person. The parish can only be built on generosity also.

Fr. Johnny Doherty, C.Ss.R.
