Humanitarian
Crisis in Darfur
The situation in Darfur is now acknowledged
as the greatest humanitarian crisis of this century.
The appalling situation there is well known, and in
the coming weeks will be highlighted again as the media
focuses on this 21st century tragedy. Thousands of villages
have been bombed and burned, and a campaign of rape,
massacre and executions has resulted in the deaths of
over two hundred thousand people and the dislocation
of over two million people from their homes.
These displaces people must be cared for and safeguarded
in the vulnerable camps scattered around Darfur and
on the border with Chad. Until there is a comprehensive
settlement these people cannot go home.
As you can understand from the above the demands on
Trócaire from Sudan alone are enormous. Last
year €4 million was allocated to this work. A significant
amount of these funds came from a special collection
held in churches throughout the country in August 2004,
which raised €7 million. These funds are now all
but exhausted.. Given Trócaire’s commitment
to Sudan, which has been a priority country for them
for many years, and the obligations they face towards
the populations of both the south and Darfur, Trócaire
is now launching a campaign and special appeal to raise
awareness of these issues and to ask the Irish people
to support generously their vital work.
In view of this situation a Church
Gate Collection will be held at all Masses in Clones
Parish on Sat 6th & Sun 7th October. We ask you
to please give generously to ease the plight of these
people who are experiencing such extreme suffering.

Love
Yourself
We need to love ourselves. Accept yourself - love yourself
as you are, not as you might have been or might be.
Be kind to yourself and you will be kind to others:
let others be kind to you and you’ll be kind to
yourself. Allow others be compassionate to you and you
will look on yourself with love - and that’s how
God looks on you.
