Reflection - I thank you for the wonder of my being.

The psalm for this Sunday – the feast of the Birth of John the Baptist speaks of God’s intimate relationship with a person, resting or rising, walking or lying down. It celebrates the infinite value of life as a gift from God, lovingly chosen and carefully crafted or knitted in the mother’s womb.

Today, the psalm celebrates the birth of one called John, a name meaning God-is-gracious. Luke writes of the sense of awe aroused in those who attended his naming. They wondered what this child would turn out to be. He was chosen to prepare the way for the Lord.

Each of us can apply this psalm to oneself. My role may not be as publicised as that of Baptist, but God will use me to prepare the way for others to enjoy the divine presence. In God’s eternal scheme there are deeds of love that will not be done unless I do them. God is watching over me at every moment and accompanying me at every step.

I thank you for wonder of my being,
for the wonders of all your creation.

Do not be afraid of Christ!

Pope Benedict XV1

Love Yourself
We need to love ourselves. Accept yourself - love yourself as you are, not as you might have been or might be. Be kind to yourself and you will be kind to others: let others be kind to you and you’ll be kind to yourself. Allow others be compassionate to you and you will look on yourself with love - and that’s how God looks on you.
