Reflection
Be Still
“Be still and know that I
am God” Psalm 46:10
When someone is really listening to
you, not just half-listening, they give you, and you
alone, their full attention. They are alert to what
you are saying, she or he are concentrated on you.
This is the kind of stillness that
God asks of us. Not the stillness of inertia or apathy
but a one-pointedness, a focusing of our whole being
on him.
Listening created space. When someone
listens to you he or she gives you this precious gift
of space. Something can happen here where your story
is heard, where you, because you are listened to, feel
accepted maybe for the first time in your life.
God is asking us to give him that gift
of space in our lives. He is like a beggar knocking
on our door and asking “Is there any space here
for me”?
Many of us have to admit that our inner
room is crowded with the cares and worries and distractions
of every day. There is a non-stop disco going on is
there, or it may be that we are so much on the outside,
that we do not even know of that room within. Of course
we want to know God and pray and all that. We go to
Mass on Sundays and say the odd prayer for family and
friends, but we never seem to have time to be still.
In our busy lives is there really no time at all in
the day when we can sit with the Lord God and tell him
our hearts’ pain and joys? No time to tell our
love? No time to praise him?
Silence? Stillness? Listening? If we
give God this gift of space we will quickly begin to
know him. God’s heart is all for us but he will
not coerce us into a deeper relationship. It is our
decision to give him the space, that stillness of heart
and mind which allows us to hear the Spirit of Jesus
in the deep places within.

Housing
Aid Bosnia: This is an appeal from Sister Helen
Ward of the Daughters of the Holy Spirit to help complete
a church for & re-house some of the most vulnerable
people in today’s world. These people live in
Capljina, nine miles from Our Lady’s Shrine in
Medjugorje. Many are still homeless & have lost
everything in the war, living for years in railway carriages
then forcibly moved into a refugee camp of tiny corrugated
iron tin shacks. Although many have been re-houses by
Housing Aid Bosnia some 117 families still live in the
camp.Fr Blaz, the Parish priest has built a church for
these people & although incomplete he opened it
in June. He is now struggling to complete this church
for these deeply religious people. Cash & Cheques
will be very gratefully received by Sister Helen Ward,

Love
Yourself
We need to love ourselves. Accept yourself - love yourself
as you are, not as you might have been or might be.
Be kind to yourself and you will be kind to others:
let others be kind to you and you’ll be kind to
yourself. Allow others be compassionate to you and you
will look on yourself with love - and that’s how
God looks on you.
