1st Sunday of Advent

How often we feel alone in this world, distanced from the crowd around us, alone in a busy place.

This, in part, is due to the choices we make. We are seduced by a false notion of freedom. We think that we can be ourselves, truly free, only when we are unencumbered by others. ‘Let me do my own thing’

Yet what we are doing is running away from our deepest self. Deep down we wish to be embraced, not to escape. Yet we act as if we wish to escape.

One is coming who wishes to embrace us, to hold us in his love. Yet he will not force himself on us.

He comes quietly and humbly—each day in the stable in Bethlehem.

We find our true selves in Christ. We await his coming.
