Mapping of Sacred Heart & Mt. St. Oliver Cemeteries
Mapping
of Sacred Heart and Mt St Oliver Cemeteries.
The Parish of Clones has been
given a grant to record both cemeteries here in the town (Sacred Heart Cemetery
and Mt. St. Oliver Cemetery). It will be wonderful for many families to be able
to pinpoint exactly where their relatives are buried.
Irish Graveyards will be
carrying out this work but we will also need your input. There are unmarked plots and it is our hope,
with your help, to get as many of these as possible identified.
The survey of each graveyard
starts with the numbering and mapping of each grave, this has already been done
using a combination of GPS and eye mapping. Digital maps of both graveyards
have been compiled as well as individual pictures of each headstone. These maps also have the names listed,
showing the surname, first name, address, month and year of death and age at
time of death together with the plot number.
You can access these on the
following website
When on the website click on
SEARCH, then on the next page use the drop-down boxes to select
Co Monaghan and the cemetery
you want to view. You can email the
Parish Office if you want to add information or amend an entry clones@clogherparishes.ie or you can use the amendment forms which will be available at the back
of Sacred Heart Church.
We will also display the Maps
in Sacred Heart Church along with the lists of those buried in both
cemeteries. Over the next two weeks we
ask you to check your own family plot, and the corresponding names.
If there are any errors in
spelling, dates, missing names, there will be correction sheets available
beside the maps. These can be returned
via the parish envelope collection baskets, dropped into the parcel box beside
the office or directly into the office during opening hours. Also, any local information on unmarked
graves would be most welcome. This information will then be added to the
original survey.
Once finished a
stainless-steel information board containing the maps and names will be erected
in both cemeteries and all information will be available on Irish Graveyards
Website.
Please do take time to check
on this as we are fast approaching Blessing of the Graves on 01/09/24 and it is
our intention to have these maps erected in both cemeteries for this and we do
not want any family to be disappointed if information is incorrect or
incomplete.
This will also be a great
source of information for those researching family history, so we ask you to
share this post with family and friends both in Ireland and further afield.
Note: Deadline for amendments/additions is 15/07/24.
